Barricaded gunman situation in Taylor ends in surrender, arrest

Taylor — An hours-long barricaded gunman situation in Taylor started with a report of shots fired and ended Wednesday morning with the surrender of a 21-year-old man, who walked out holding the 11-month-old girl he'd been holding inside an apartment, police said.

"It's over and everyone's OK," said Lt. Marc Gaynier of the Taylor Police Department.

Taylor police were called to an apartment complex on the 15000 block of Court Village Drive at about 2 a.m. for a report of shots fired, police said. That's off Eureka, west of Beech Daly.

The 21-year-old female victim escaped the gunfire unharmed, but because shots had been fired and and her live-in boyfriend was known to be armed, police considered him a barricaded gunman, Gaynier said.

The home is known to police due to previous domestic violence-related calls, Gaynier said. 

SWAT officers and negotiators were at the scene for hours. Detroit-area media reported there were evacuations at the apartment complex. 

At around, about 8 a.m., the man walked out, with the baby in hand, unharmed. He was arrested and the girl has been reunited with her mother.

Police conducted a search of the apartment, and have recovered a weapon.
