Winter weather advisory for southeast Mich. as rain turns to snow

A low-pressure system turned Monday's early rain into snow, with accumulations forecast for southeast Michigan up to 3 inches.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 3 p.m. Monday until noon Tuesday for Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

The weather agency says snow will start to accumulate on roadways after 6 p.m., raising the possibility of slippery roads and hazardous conditions.

Additionally, the weather service issued a winter weather advisory for Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, Lapeer and St. Clair counties from 3 p.m. Monday until 4 p.m. Tuesday. Snowfalls are expected to be higher in the Thumb area, up to 5 inches.

Temperatures across southern Michigan are forecast to fall to the mid-30s Monday and remain in the 30s for Tuesday, with temperatures climbing into the low 40s the rest of the week.

For those traveling south, expect more snow in Ohio, where rain transitioned to snow  early in the morning. Up to 5 inches is expected in the Toledo area, with snow increasing for areas farther east. A winter storm warning is posted for Cleveland into Wednesday morning. Up to 12 inches is expected in the area.
