Winter storm warning in effect for parts of Michigan

A winter storm warning is in effect for much of northern lower Michigan, with snowfall of 5 to 10 inches possible Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.

"Snow will gradually spread into northern Lower Michigan overnight and become heavy at times through the day Saturday, according to the NWS warning. "Snow quickly tapers off Saturday night."

Counties covered by the storm warning include Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena, Benzie and Grand Traverse.

In addition, a winter weather advisory is in effect until 3 a.m. Sunday for counties including Isabella, Montcalm and Muskegon, with up to 5 inches of snow and a "light glaze" of ice possible, according to the weather service.
