Detroit Lions' Jamal Agnew returns a kick off during the first half.

Game summary

The Detroit Lions fell victim to a number of bad calls in their season finale at Ford Field on Sunday, as the Minnesota Vikings took advantage of a bad Lions penalty on fourth-and-goal and an overturned touchdown by Marvin Jones Jr. to escape with a 37-35 victory.

Vikings finish off Lions in season finale

Minnesota takes over at its own 25, leading by 2 with 4:26 to go.

Kirk Cousins finds C.J. Ham for a 30-yard gain on first down.

A holding penalty makes it first-and-20 at the 35. Kirk Cousins throws to Justin Jefferson for 13 yards, then 8 yards, to move the chains.

It's first-and-10 at the Detroit 34. Alexander Mattison rushes for 5 yards, and is then wrapped up for a loss of 1 to bring up third-and-6. Irv Smith is stopped a yard short of the sticks, but Mattison picks up the first down on fourth-and-1.

**Two-minute warning**

The Vikings will get in victory formation to close this thing out.

FINAL: Vikings 37, Lions 35

Lions cut deficit to 2 after marching down field

Detroit takes over at the 25, trailing 37-29 with 10:32 to go. A holding penalty makes it first-and-20 at the 15.

Swift takes the carry on the next play for 7. Stafford hits T.J. Hockenson for a 2-yard gain. Adrian Peterson moves the chains on fourth-and-1 after a third-down incompletion.

Stafford drops a gorgeous throw into the hands of a diving Marvin Jones, and they appear to have their third touchdown connection of the day before the play is overturned by video review.

It's second-and-10.

D'Andre Swift is tackled for a loss of 1. Jones hauls in a 16-yard throw on third down to keep the drive alive and bring up first-and-10 at the 23.

Stafford then goes to Mohamed Sanu for a 6-yard completion before scrambling for a gain of 5 to the Minnesota 12.

Stafford's first-down throw is knocked incomplete. Jones fights to the 1 after getting open on a quick slant route, and the Lions have it first-and-goal.

Swift sneaks it into the end zone to draw the Lions within 2. They can tie the game with the ensuing two-point attempt: The attempt fails. Still a 2-point game.

Mattison rushes for 7 yards on first down and 4 yards on second down, bringing the third quarter to a close.

END 3RD: Vikings 31, Lions 29

It's first-and-20 at the 30 after a holding penalty. Mike Boone moves the chains with rushes of 19 and 5 yards, bringing up first-and-goal at the 6.

Boone gets to the 2 with a 4-yard rush, and is then stuffed at the 2. He's stuffed again on third down, and the Vikings have an interesting decision to make on fourth-and-goal at the 1.

Tracy Walker picks up the sack, but is flagged for tackling the quarterback, evidently. The roughing-the-passer penalty makes it first-and-goal at the half-yard line.

Cousins scores a number of plays later and Dan Bailey misses the extra point.

Vikings 37, Lions 29 (10:32 4th)

Matt Prater's 54-yard field goal attempt is good, and probably would have been good from at least 60. Impressive bounce-back after missing the PAT earlier.

Vikings get second chance after Agnew fumbles, immediately punt again

Minnesota takes over at its own 25, still in a 0-0 game with 11:37 to go in the first quarter.

Alexander Mattison runs for 3 yards total on first and second down, meaning the 6-yard throw to Ameer Abdullah on third down won't be enough to move the chains.

Jamal Agnew fumbles on the punt return after picking up some pretty decent yardage, and Minnesota recovers at the Detroit 42.

Kirk Cousins' first-down pass is awful, incomplete. Romeo Okwara sacks Cousins for a loss of 7 on second down. The third-down pass is dropped, and Minnesota will punt again, this time pinning Detroit at the 10.
