Lions claim defensive tackle off waivers after another retires ahead of camp
Justin RogersHours after the Detroit Lions announced they had placed defensive tackle Brian Price on the reserve/retired list Tuesday morning, the team was awarded defensive tackle Bruce Hector off waivers.
Most recently with the Tennessee Titans, Hector has spent time with three other teams since going undrafted out of South Florida in 2018. He appeared in 11 games for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2018-19, playing 135 defensive snaps while recording two tackles and 0.5 sacks.
The 6-foot-2, 296-pound Hector replaces Price, who originally signed with the Lions in early June after former Michigan State standout Joel Heath was lost for the season with an ACL injury.
Price went undrafted out of the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2016. Detroit marked his seventh NFL stop after initially signing with the Green Bay Packers.
Hector bolsters a deep position group following the offseason additions of Michael Brockers, Levi Onwuzurike and Alim McNeill. The newcomers join holdovers Nick Williams, Da'Shawn Hand, John Penisini and Kevin Strong.
