Pistons NBA City Edition jerseys unveiled

It’s not the striking teal jersey that some Pistons fans wanted, but it’s still a throwback look.

The NBA unveiled the City Edition jerseys for this season, and the Pistons’ ensemble is a departure from their recent uniform choices. The jersey is red with “Detroit” in blue block letters across the front. The top and shorts have blue and a faint white trim, with a thunderbolt-inspired design down the sides of the shorts.

And there is some teal — subtly outlining the blue thunderbolts on the shorts and on the sides of the tops.

There is another homage to the teal-era jerseys: the horse logo is on the front waistband of the shorts. It’s a subtle nod to what could be a future reprise of the teal look.

The tag on the bottom of the shirt has “Detroit Basketball” printed, along with the championship years: 1989, ’90 and 2004. The shorts also have the original and current logo patches on either side.

“This year’s Nike NBA City Edition uniform is a celebration of our franchise’s rich history,” said Alicia Jeffreys, Pistons senior vice president of marketing. “From the Bad Boys era to the ‘90s teal to the Goin’ to Work championship team, this jersey represents the Detroit Pistons legacy as we continue to build and restore for the future.”
