Ex-Spartan Taiwan Jones among local players selected on Day 2 of USFL draft

One day after drafting Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson to start the 2022 USFL Draft on Tuesday night, the upstart Michigan Panthers on Wednesday chose Michigan State linebacker Taiwan Jones in Round 21.

Jones, 28, won a Rose Bowl during his career at Michigan State (2011-2014). He has played in both the American Football Alliance and XFL and held a roster spot when each respective league folded.

Day 2 (Rounds 13-35) of the USFL Draft continues exclusively on social media, where teams are announcing their picks.

Unlike a traditional entry draft, the USFL Draft requires players of a certain position to be taken each round. Quarterbacks, edge rushers, offensive tackles and cornerbacks were all taken off the board in Day 1. The rest of the roster will be filled out on Day 2.

Day two

In the 13th round, Michigan took Quincy Adeboyejo, WR (Ole Miss).

In the 14th round, the Panthers selected Lance Lenoir, WR (Western Illinois).

In the 15th round Michigan selects former undrafted Minnesota Viking Jeff Badet, WR (Oklahoma).

In round 16, the Panthers selected Ray Bolden, WR (Stoney Brook).

In the 17th round, the Panthers chose to pass on their pick.

In the 18th round, Michigan took former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Orion Stewart, S (Baylor).

In round 19, the Panthers selected former Nebraska safety Kieron Williams. 

In the 20th round, Michigan selected Sean Richard Pollard, C (Clemson).

In the 21st round, the Panthers took Justin Lorenz Hughes, S (Kansas State).

In round 22, Michigan picked up former Buffalo Bill and Las Vegas Raider Marquel Harrell, G (Auburn).

In the 23rd round, the Panthers selected Daishawn Dixon, G (San Diego State).

In the 24th round, Michigan selected former Pittsburgh Steeler TJ Carter, DT (Kentucky).

In round 25, the Panthers took Jaquan Bailey, DT (Iowa State).

In the 26th round, Michigan selected former Detroit Loyola and Grand Valley State defensive tackle Kyshonn Tyson.

With the third pick in the 27th round, former Cass Tech star Mike Weber, RB was selected by the New Jersey Generals.

In round 27, the Panthers selected Steve Scott III, RB (Indiana).

In the 28th round, Michigan took Reginald Corbin, (Illinois).

In the 29th round, the Panthers selected former Eastern Michigan stand out Terry Myrick, OLB.

In round 30, Michigan selected Frank Ginda, OLB (San Jose State).

In the 31st round, the Panthers took Tre’ Threat, OLB (Jacksonville State).

In round 32, Michigan chose to pass on their pick.

In round 33, the Panthers selected Michael Carrizosa, P (San Jose State).

In the 34th round, Michigan picked up Joseph Magnifico, TE (Memphis).

With their first pick in the 35th round, the Panthers selected La'Michael Pettway, WR (Iowa State).

In round 35, Michigan chose to pass on their pick.
