Grief counselors to be in place at Ann Arbor schools after student found dead

Grief counselors will be in place in Ann Arbor Public Schools for the rest of the week after a missing 15-year-old student was found dead on the grounds of Pioneer High School on Monday.

Adriana Davidson of Scio Township was found on the school's grounds around 1 p.m. by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, Ann Arbor Police said in a statement on Twitter.

"We have counselors and grief support teams in place to support students and staff at Pioneer, as well as across our AAPS school campuses as is needed this week; our counselors will continue this work over the coming days so that our students and staff have ongoing support during this very difficult time," said Jeanice Kerr Swift, the district's superintendent.

Davidson last communicated with her family around 9 a.m. Friday while on her way to school, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office said.

Her friends reported last seeing Adriana around 11 a.m. Friday outside Pioneer High School. Relatives reported her missing the next morning.

"While the Ann Arbor Police Department is investigating the circumstances of her death, we do not believe there is an active threat to the community," said Ann Arbor Police in a Twitter post. "An autopsy is planned to determine cause of death."

Sheriff's officials said the body was found near the athletic fields.

"At this early stage there are no indications of foul play," the office said in a statement. "...Our sincere condolences go out to the friends and family of Adriana. You remain in our thoughts and prayers. We would also like to thank everyone for your assistance in spreading the word, sharing tips, and offering your support."

Other details were not released Monday.

Swift said the school district was "deeply saddened" by Adriana's death.

"Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to Adriana’s family, friends and the Pioneer community," she said in a statement. "Please reach out and support each other. Remember that this hard news affects everyone differently. Sometimes it really hits hard even for students and staff who did not know Addy personally. This is especially true now."
