Recap: First round ends with Chiefs taking Kansas State DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah

The first round of the NFL Draft has concluded. Chaos was expected, and it was delivered.

Three quarterbacks were taken in the first four picks. Illinois CB Devon Witherspoon went earlier than expected. There were six trades. It was a wild and unexpected night.

Speaking of wild and unexpected, the Lions traded down from six, drafted Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs at pick 12 and Iowa LB Jack Campbell at pick 18. Neither of those picks were expected in any capacity. It was an interesting night for Brad Holmes and company, to say the least.

Players still available after round one include Kentucky QB Will Levis, Penn State CB Joey Porter Jr., and Alabama DB Brian Branch.

End of 1st round

No. 31 pick: Chiefs take Kansas State DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah

The last pick of the first round is KSU DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah. The Super Bowl champion Chiefs add a pass rusher.

No. 30 pick: Eagles take Georgia OLB Nolan Smith

Georgia has become a farm team for the Eagles. Four Georgia defenders in the last two drafts.

No. 29 pick: Saints pick Clemson DT Bryan Bresee

Back-to-back Clemson players as the Saints take Bresee, who was also projected to go higher than this at one point.

No. 28 pick: Bengals select Clemson DE Myles Murphy

Murphy had been projected to go as high as the top five, but ends up at No. 28 to Cincy.

No. 27 pick: Jaguars take Oklahoma OT Anton Harrison

The Jags get some more protection for Trevor Lawrence.

No. 26 pick: Cowboys take Michigan DT Mazi Smith

The Cowboys take a local product in Michigan DT Mazi Smith. A little higher than most people projected, but Dallas clearly had a high grade on him.

No. 25 pick: Bills take Utah TE Dalton Kincaid

The Bills take the first tight end off the board in Utah's Dalton Kincaid.

TRADE: Bills trade up two spots

The Jags trade down again.

No. 24 pick: Giants select Maryland CB Deonte Banks

The run on wideouts finally ends as the Giants take Deonte Banks.

TRADE: Giants trade up one spot

Giants swap picks with the Jaguars.

No. 23 pick: Vikings select USC WR Jordan Addison

Make it four! The Vikings select USC WR Jordan Addison to pair with Justin Jefferson.

No. 22 pick: Ravens take Boston College WR Zay Flowers

Three straight wideouts now as the Ravens get some help for the freshly-extended Lamar Jackson.

No. 21 pick: Chargers take TCU WR Quentin Johnston

The run on wide receivers has begun. The Chargers add a weapon for Justin Herbert

No. 20 pick: Seahawks take Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba

The first wideout comes off the board.

No. 19 pick: Bucs take Pitt DT Calijah Kancey

A popular Lions pick comes off the board at 19.

No. 18 pick: Lions draft Iowa LB Jack Campbell

Lions get a cog for the linebacking corps. I have a feeling Lions fans are going to love this one.

No. 17 pick: Patriots take Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez after trading down

Patriots take who Lions could have taken at 12 right before their second first-round pick. Lions on the clock.

No. 16 pick: Commanders select Mississippi State CB Emmanuel Forbes

Second CB off the board is a bit of a shocher. Forbes goes before the likes of Christian Gonzalez, Joey Porter Jr., and Deonte Banks.

No. 15 pick: Jets select Iowa State EDGE Will McDonald

Not a lot of people had McDonald going this high. The Jets were trying to trade down, but wind up taking McDonald.

No. 14 pick: Steelers take Georgia OT Broderick Jones

The run on offensive tackles continues, as the Steelers pick up some protection for Kenny Pickett.

TRADE: Steelers trade up to No. 14

Patriots trade back to No. 17.

No. 13 pick: Packers take Iowa DE Lukas Van Ness

The Packers first pick post-Rodgers is a pass rusher.

No. 12 pick: Lions take Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs

Wow. Lions take a running back in the first round after all. Gibbs is good, but they probably could have gotten him later. Interesting.

No. 11 pick: Titans take Northwestern OT Peter Skoronski

Skoronski was considered by some to be the best OT in the draft. He is the third OT off the board. Lions on the clock.

No. 10 pick: Bears select Tennessee OT Darnell Wright

Bears pick up some much-needed protection for Justin Fields. Wright had been a popular selection for the Lions at 18.

No. 9 pick: Eagles snag Georgia DT Jalen Carter

No surprise here. Howie Roseman loves his defensive lineman.

TRADE: Eagles trade up one spot

Eagles swap picks with Bears. I'd be shocked if this wasn't Jalen Carter knowing Eagles GM Howie Roseman's draft history.

No. 8 pick: Falcons take Texas RB Bijan Robinson

Falcons add a huge piece for their running game. Some Lions fans wanted him in Detroit.

No. 7 pick: Raiders select Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson

Had been mocked to the Lions before. Raiders get some help for former EMU standout Maxx Crosby.

No. 6 pick: Cardinals take Ohio State OT Paris Johnson

Cardinals get some protection for Kyler Murray.

TRADE: Lions trade down from No. 6

Liosn trade with the Cardinals, who just traded down from No. 3 not that long ago. Lions get picks 12 and 34, so they pick up a extra second rounder.

No. 5 pick: Seahawks take Illinois CB Devon Witherspoon

Wow. This one is a shocker. Most draft experts had him mocked to the Lions at 6. Instead, he goes fifth overall to Seattle. Jalen Carter still on the board as the Lions are now on the clock...

No. 4 pick: Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida

The Colts take a massive project in Anthony Richardson. Bold move, but Indy needed a quarterback. Some thought he made sense for the Lions at 6.

No. 3 pick: Texans take Will Anderson following trade with Cardinals

Cardinals get picks 12 and 33 in this draft, and a 1st and a 3rd round pick next year for pick 3 and 105 this year. Quite the haul for Arizona.

Texans get quite possibly the best overall player in the draft. Wow. Bold move by Houston.

TRADE: Texans trade back up to No. 3 with Cardinals.

Rumor is they plan on taking Alabama DE Will Anderson Jr.

No. 2 pick: C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State

The Texans also take their QB of the future. Some people thought they might go defense here, but they ended up going QB after all.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, left, and Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, hold a team jersey after Young was chosen by the Carolina Panthers with the first pick at the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri.

No. 1 overall pick: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama

The Panthers take their signal caller of the future in Alabama QB Bryce Young. He wasn't necessarily the consensus top pick, but he was the commonly mocked player to the Panthers at No. 1.

Commissioner Goodell kicks things off

Roger Goodell read his introduction speech and introduced a few guests, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The Panthers are officially on the clock. Let the chaos begin.

After months of mock drafts and rumors, the 2023 NFL Draft begins tonight with the first round.

The Carolina Panthers hold the No. 1 overall pick after a trade with the Chicago Bears last month. They are expected to take a quarterback, but it is still unclear which one they will select. Alabama's Bryce Young, Ohio State's C.J. Stroud and Kentucky's Will Levis all seem to be in play.

The Lions have picks No. 6 and No. 18 in the first round, so they have a chance to land two impact players. One thing is for sure — there will be chaos. Would it be the NFL Draft without absolute insanity?
