Baby alive in Detroit home where 2 adults found slain, police say

An infant was found alive inside a Detroit home where two adults were found dead, Detroit police said Monday.

The baby appeared to be unharmed, police said, citing preliminary information.

A 31-year-old male and a 27-year-old female were found dead at about 4:16 p.m. in the 18000 block of Northlawn. They had been shot, police said.

Hours after the discovery, friends and relatives remained at the scene near Thatcher.

Several wept and consoled each other in small groups while investigators moved in and out of the two-story, light-brown home. 

A woman told an officer nearby the 27-year-old was her best friend and burst into tears.

Another woman who described herself as a relative said the victim had several other children who were not at the home. Police said they could not confirm details Monday night.

The woman and others prayed with an officer near yellow police tape as the sun set.

Neighbors watched from their porches as a county medical examiner vehicle arrived and police cars blocked the intersection outside the home.
